About Jennifer
2024 will be my 17th tax prep season! I trained initially with H&R Block, worked for them for 4 seasons, and now provide independent tax preparation. I have prepared over 4,000 tax returns, handling all manner of tax situations. Being a performer myself, I specialize in multi-state issues, job deductions, and contracting income. I also have extensive experience with the Health Insurance Market, as well as advising on how the recent tax law changes affect performers.
I am a Tax Preparer registered with the IRS, which means I can sign your return and have a PTIN. I am also a registered ERO, which means I am authorized to electronically file your tax return. I use OLT Professional software. My initial training consisted of 150 hours of tax school with H&R Block, and each year I complete at least the recommended 18 hours of continuing education in order to keep up with changes to tax law, as well as the additional 4 hours required by the state of NY. For 2024 I hold a valid Annual Filing Season Program record of completion for the calendar year, and have complied with the IRS requirements for receiving the record of completion. I am bound by the Circular 230 code of ethics, which requires me to keep your information confidential except in case of court order, and to provide you with ethical advice to the best of my ability.
I am also a Financial Planner, and have training on budgeting, retirement planning, and other personal finance topics to go along with tax planning. I passed the Certified Financial Planner exam in 2017 and completed the recommended 6,000 of professional experience.

Services
I can prepare personal US Federal income tax returns, both the 1040, and 1040NR. I can also prepare income tax returns for any US state. All tax issues relating to deductions, education, credits, retirement, dependents, self-employment, and health insurance are not a problem! I specialize in people with 1099NEC/MISC or Self-employment income or multi-state issues, particularly people in the arts, but I also handle issues for plenty of other types of service providers. Single Member LLCs are fine!
I do not handle certain complex investments, businesses, or rental properties. While I do not prepare corporate, partnership, or non-profit returns, I do have an accountant I am partnered with that I can refer you to for those matters who can handle your business return while I do your personal. I do not handle state or local business taxes, or sales taxes.
I can prepare returns for non-resident aliens, however if you have significant foreign income or investments I can refer you elsewhere. I also do not handle anyone with significant foreign property or direct investment in a foreign stock or business, though holding foreign stocks as part of a portfolio through a US brokerage is fine. I also do not handle Americans living abroad for more than a temporary time period.

FAQ's
Q: Are you an accountant or a CPA?
A: No, I am a Tax Return Preparer, which means my training was specifically focused on personal income tax returns. CPA's take a lot of classes in other things like accounting, business structure and taxes, and business auditing that are not necessary to prepare personal income taxes.
Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: Yes! I have early bird discounts for clients who complete their returns earlier in the tax season. I also offer client loyalty discounts for clients who stick with me for multiple tax seasons.
Q: Can you get me a refund?
A: I promise to help you pay the lowest amount of taxes that you are legally obligated to pay. Whether or not a person gets a refund depends on a lot of factors, but the important part is paying less tax total.
Q: Do you have tricks to help people pay less taxes/get bigger refunds?
A: I wouldn't call them tricks, but my tax knowledge will hopefully help me find you some deductions or credits that you weren't aware of before. Nothing tricky about it!
Q: Can I pay you from my refund?
A: I do not offer the option to have your tax prep fees taken out of your refund, all fees must be paid prior to the return being filed.
Q: Is <insert thing here> deductible?
A: Maybe, check out my handy deduction spreadsheets!
